Axle ratings, lining grades, and why “cheap brakes” cost more on a school route than on paper.
What you will gain from this guide
- Match lining grade to gross vehicle weight
- Replace drums in pairs when possible
- Air and hydraulic systems need different checklists
Brakes on a loaded Traveller are not the same job as brakes on an empty pickup. The part counter needs axle context, not just “rear brake shoe.”
Order checklist
- Identify front vs rear and service vs parking brake parts — codes differ.
- Note drum inner diameter if relining — thin drums belong in the scrap bin, not back on the hub.
- Fluid spec ( DOT ) is on the reservoir cap — do not mix grades.
- Search the code on part search or open brake figure for your vehicle.
Fleet operators running mixed air and hydraulic rigs should read air vs hydraulic maintenance. Passenger duty? Do not downgrade lining grade to save ₹200 — inspectors and insurers notice.
